The sudden death overseas of Adira Koffsky, who grew up in West Hempstead and attended the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County here, has sent a wave of shock and sadness through the town’s Jewish community.
Adira, 19, was studying at a seminary in Jerusalem and was hit by a car that lost control on a rainy street in the German Colony neighborhod a few blocks from the school.
According to the Times of Israel,“The driver of the car that hit Koffsky was a 76-year-old woman. She was seriously injured, and her passenger, a 78-year-old man, was also killed.”
Adira is the daughter of Mark and Ann Koffsky, granddaughter of Rabbi Lou and Hermine Diament and Ed and Lynn Koffsky and sister of Aaron and Dahlia. A funeral took place Friday morning at the Young Israel of West Hempstead after her parents traveled to Israel to bring her home.
In a statement, the Israeli yeshiva, Midreshet Amudim, said i”The entire Amudim family is shattered, our hearts are broken and we are in shock and pain over the loss of our beloved student. All words of wisdom or comfort are empty at this moment.”
Echo extends condolences to the Koffsky family and will post updates on any memorial services or funds established in Adira’s memory.
