Community Supports Israel’s Soldiers

As Israeli troops mobilized for a prolonged conflict in Gaza, local residents gathered to support them with bags of candy and toiletries on Sunday at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County. Children had the opportunity to draw pictures and send messages of support for their heroes.

Many West Hempstead residents have children and family in Israel, including some soldiers, and news of last week’s massive terror attack sent shockwaves through the community, leading to several events for prayer, solidarity and action. More events are being planned.

“I was totally overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support,” said Joe Varon, one of the organizers. “Children, youngsters and oldsters came to HANC to stuff more or less about 1,300 packages including notes and pictures made with love.”
