Part 2 – Norm and David continue to unravel the issues behind the broken sidewalks that plague West Hempstead
Home values are increasing and there are construction projects all over West Hempstead but unfortunately, many homeowners are neglecting their sidewalks and associated civic responsibilities. Sidewalks across town are in urgent need of repair and maintenance.
A short visual inspection in the Presidential section showed almost every block with some impairment that would make it difficult or impossible to navigate the sidewalks with a wheelchair or stroller.
Sidewalk issues pictured below: Raised panels by tree limbs, broken cement, poor DIY repair and tree and bush obstructions.
The situation is only getting worse as there appears to be little or no code enforcement in the residential areas of town and some of the issues are at least several years old.
What can homeowners do to address the situation? The answer is simple, fix your sidewalk and do it properly. Think of your neighbors and the community who depend on the sidewalk to get around town safely.
