Parade, menorah lighting highlight West Hempstead Chanukah Spectacular

The Mega Chanukah Spectacular took place on Dec. 1 along Hempstead Avenue.

The fun kicked off with a parade at the corner of Hempstead Avenue and Woodlawn. Fire trucks traveled through the neighborhood, stopping at several locations for firefighters to take photos with kids.

Introductory and welcoming remarks were made by Rabbi Yossi Lieberman, who then went on to light the menorah.

The parade was followed by a public menorah lighting and grand celebration at Halls Pond. The festivities included a DJ and special effects by Mendy Piamenta. There was also a Gelt drop, where candy was dropped from the ladder of a fire truck, Chanukah gifts, hot latkes and donuts.
