Big wins across the board for local Republicans. At the Town of Hempstead, Supervisor, Donald Clavin (R) defeated Olena Nicks (D) by a vote of 81,868 (65.06%) to 43,661 (34.7%). In other town elections, Receiver of Taxes incumbent Jeanine Driscoll (R) and incumbent Town Clerk Kate Murray (R) both defeated their opponents by a wide margins.
Locally in West Hempstead, in the Nassau County Legislator 8th District race, John Giuffre (R) easily defeated challenger Erica Rico (D) in a landslide vote 9,515 (73.81%) to 3,335 (25.87%). And in a race for the 14th District County Legislator position that had heated up heading into Tuesday’s election, Jake Scheiner (D) was defeated by GOP incumbent Bill Gaylor by a vote of 7,533 (59.68%) to 5,063 votes (40.11%).
