As of 4 PM on Friday, 9/29, Hempstead Avenue is flooded out around Hall’s Pond as heavy rain continues to engulf much of the area. Runoff water from the pond is overflowing onto the roadways. Several inches of rain have already soaked the area.
West Hempsteaders are bracing for the worst as roads, backyards and basements are taking a direct hit and roofs show signs of leakage. This deluge also coincides with the Jewish holiday of Sukkot which starts tonight, where residents eat in outside tent-like structures that can be seen all over town. (The holiday observances include a prayer for rain.)
Motorists headed home also faced challenges with flooding reported at the intersection of the Southern State and Cross Island Parkways.
