Officials Discuss Woodfield Rd. Safety At Forum; New Light To Be Installed This Summer

Community Support Association meeting on April 27, 2023 to discuss traffic on Woodfield Road

Following recent accidents, local officials detailed improvements at a troubled Woodfield Road intersection at an open forum on April 27th at the American Legion Hall.  Speakers included Public Works Commissioner Kenneth Arnold, Legislator John Giuffre, Assemblyman Ed Ra, and the Police Precinct Commander.

The primary speaker was the Commissioner who explained the study and their decision to install a light at Woodfield and Lindberg. Following are the highlights:

  • Light location was based on an engineering study his office completed, installation this summer.
  • The light will be red paused meaning it will be red on Woodfield until cars get close.
  • The crossing will have countdown timers and signage.
  • The Intersection will have painted crosswalks and the road will contain speed limit markings.

Commissioner Arnold stressed the importance of pushing the button to cross as it sets the timing of the red light as opposed to a timer set on traffic parameters.

Police said they issued triple the normal rate of tickets this year and will continue to post the electric speed sign on and off as it rotates between locations around town.
