St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic school closes its doors

St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic school has closed its doors for good due to an ongoing decline in enrollment after more than 50 years.

According to the Rockville Centre Diocese website, the school has seen enrollment decline 35% to 209 students since 2015. During the 2019-2020 school year, the school sustained itself through $272,000 of support from the parish and the Diocese. The decline in offertory collections due to COVID-19, as well as lower anticipated revenues from tuition and fundraising, made it clear that the school could not remain open.

Parents now have the option to send their kids to one of the neighboring Catholic schools that are still open.

The following schools in the area that are still open for the 2021-2022 school year are as follows:

    • St. Anne’s School, Garden City
    • St. Brigid/Our Lady of Hope Regional School, Westbury
    • St. Joseph School, Garden City
    • Our Lady of Lourdes School, Malverne
    • Our Lady of Victory School, Floral Park
    • St. Martin de Porres Marianist School, Uniondale
