This morning I was surprised to find a street sweeping vehicle from the Town of Hempstead poised and ready to head down my block in the Presidential section of West Hempstead. Surprised, because when I had previously called the Highway Department at the Town of Hempstead I was told several weeks ago that there was no schedule being published this year and street cleaning was being done by request only. Request only? Who has the time or knowledge to call the Highway Department to request street sweeping?
This was an issue for me because recently the West Hempstead Water department had flushed out the hydrants and there was brown water residue or rust powder all over the streets. I was looking to see when this would all be cleaned up along with regular dirt and grime that has built up over the year.
With all that in mind I was pleasantly surprised to see the Street sweeper meticulously going back-and-forth down my block cleaning it all up.
Things are looking up in West Hempstead.
