Synagogue opens in former site of Pompei restaurant

It’s the start of a new era as a synagogue opens in the former Pompei restaurant, which was a staple in the West Hempstead community for decades.

Anyone living in West Hempstead knew about the restaurant. Pompei was a place for residents to go and have a meal and also host parties. The restaurant was a cornerstone in West Hempstead since the 70s.

Bais Torah U’Tefilah, or BTU, has taken over the site and recently hosted an opening ceremony to welcome members of the Jewish community.

According to BTU’s website, it is more than just a shul, it is a close-knit kehilah built upon the many young families who share a vision. Members consist of both long-tenured residents of West Hempstead, as well as families who have moved in more recently from areas such as Queens, Far Rockaway, and the Five Towns.
