🍗 Finally Open: Popeyes on Hempstead Turnpike
It’s been years in the making, and now it’s finally here! Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has officially opened its doors on Hempstead Turnpike. The lines are forming and the spicy chicken sandwiches are flying.
🍕 Coming Soon: Block Pizza
Block Pizza, a brand-new kosher spot serving both pizza and sushi, is preparing for its grand opening on April 30th. The storefront is looking great — and yes, we’ll be talking to the team behind this exciting new addition very soon.
🏗️ Construction Updates
Big moves happening around town:
The HANC school complex along Hempstead Avenue has its outer walls up.
Over at Heritage Westminster, the new apartment development is celebrating a construction milestone with a topping-out party next week. Echo will be covering it all!
🏀 Local Sports Star Shines
Shout-out to Isaiah Blunt, senior G/F at West Hempstead High School, for being named to Newsday’s All-Long Island Boys Basketball Second Team. A two-time honoree, Blunt averaged 21.3 points and 10.2 rebounds this season. Coach Rubin praised his ability to create his own shot and deliver under pressure. Well deserved, Isaiah!

đźš” Crime Report: East Garden City Incident
An 83-year-old East Garden City man was arrested for causing $23,000 in damage to five Teslas at Roosevelt Field Mall. The suspect, Victor Divergilio, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and will be arraigned today, April 23rd, at First District Court in Hempstead.
đź§ą Street Sweeping Season Begins
Starting in May, town roadways will be swept regularly through October. Not only does it keep our streets clean, but it also helps protect local waterways. Check your address’s schedule on the Town of Hempstead’s website.

🌍 Earth Day & A Community Shout-Out
Yesterday was Earth Day, and we’re thinking of Joe Varone, a longtime West Hempstead resident and retired NYC teacher known for his environmental passion. Joe is currently hospitalized — wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery.
📆 Reminder: School Budget Vote on May 20
The annual school budget vote is coming up on May 20th. Echo will be providing full coverage, including interviews with this year’s candidates. Tonight, April 23rd, the School Board will officially adopt the proposed budget.
