This Week In West Hempstead: Week Of February 4th

This Week in West Hempstead – Feb 4, 2026
Brutal cold continues to grip West Hempstead—frozen pipes, skaters on Halls Pond, buses struggling on narrow streets, and even reports of delayed mail after the storm. The cold sticks around into early next week, with a chance of snow Friday into Saturday and temps dipping into the single digits. Stay warm and check those pipes.
Bagel Wars update: Bagletown is temporarily closed for renovations of a month or two. For Juice Sake is now selling bagels daily—social media is busy guessing the source, but as long as they’re tasty & fresh… 🤷‍♂️ Riesterer’s is expanding its cream cheese lineup to go along with their bagels. Options include: scallion, vegetable, lox, and walnut raisin. And yes—we still miss Neal from Bagel Craft, winner of our Best Bagel contest two years ago.
The West Hempstead Civic Association has mailed membership letters—$25 a year and worth it for the great work they do.
Library Sunday Concert – Feb 8 at 2PM: Grand Folk Railroad (’60s & ’70s pop). First come seating—bring a sweater.
Valentine’s Day Vow Renewals – Thurs, Feb 12, 11AM–1PM with Town Clerk Kate Murray, surrounded by 60 classic and muscle cars. Call 516-812-3014 to reserve.
Nassau County news: Nearly 700 lbs of cocaine seized in one of the largest drug busts in county history. Two suspects arrested; investigation ongoing.
More soon—stay safe, stay warm, and support local.
