Upgrades and improvements continue at Hempstead Lake State Park as part of the Living With the Bay project funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The project is part of a post-Sandy water management improvement program.
The Hempstead Lake State Park project calls for improvements to public lands managed by the state of New York Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
According to the sign at the entrance to the park, “Improvements include the enhancements of the existing trails around Hempstead Lake and connection to an existing paved walkway along Peninsula Boulevard, a new ADA kayak launch, ADA accessible fishing pier, and Hempstead Lake overlook and traffic calming along Lake Drive.’ The expected completion time is this summer.
