It was looking like a quiet budget season… but let’s be real — this is West Hempstead after all. Flyers are circulating both for and against the proposed school budget, and the conversation is heating up.

Here’s what you need to know before heading to the polls:

💰 Proposed Spending:
$79,909,448 — a 2.58% increase over the current $77.9M budget

🏛️ Tax Levy:
2.31% increase, from $50.6M to $51.8M — within the state tax cap
(Requires a simple majority to pass)

👩‍🏫 Teacher Pay & Jobs:
Includes a 1% raise for teachers
✅ No cuts to staffing or programs

📌 Key Issue This Year:
Concerns over use of the district’s Reserve Fund, which some say could run dry in less than two years at the current rate of spending
