In case your wondering how the town’s water district is holding up during the current heat wave, we reached out to them for a status report and here are their responses to our questions:
– ‘All the towers are in good shape. As per regulations, they are inspected semi-annually. Currently we have max capacity 2.35 million gallons of water “in the air. Generally, pressure is never the issue here in West Hempstead as we are a relatively high pressure district (75-85 PSI depending on location). However, from time to time customers will notice a drop off in volume as houses were built with one bathroom no dishwasher or sprinkler systems etc. To alleviate this, customers can increase their service lines from ¾” to 1” to provide the amount of water needed for today’s demands.
– If there is a water main break or some other disturbance (fire hydrant use by fire departments/sewer clean out crews/street sweepers) there is potential for rusty water as the increased velocities under the previously mentioned conditions can scour the cast iron main.
– Fortunately the West Hempstead Water District is in a strong place at the moment with all wells in operation and no major distribution projects currently underway. That can change at a moment’s notice, however.
– We do not have plans to implement any further restrictions beyond the NC ordinances as things are running well like previously mentioned.
