From Newsday’s cover story of April 25th: A former New York State Trooper from West Hempstead, Thomas Mascia, 27, is expected to plead guilty early next month after being accused of falsely claiming he was shot by a “Black or dark-skinned” man on the Southern State Parkway. Mascia was charged back in January with filing a false report, official misconduct, and tampering with evidence. Investigators say he deliberately shot himself in an apparent attempt to gain sympathy or attention.
Adding to the charges, a search of the Mascia family home led to the arrest of his parents, Dorothy and Thomas Mascia Sr., after an illegal semiautomatic assault rifle was found in a bedroom.More details expected at his court appearance early next month.
