The West Hempstead Water District has a new state of the art facility in South Garden City. The new equipment enhances the District’s capabilities of removing potential carcinogens from drinking water.

Who knew the blue 600,000 gallon water tower sitting north of Hempstead Turnpike just off Nassau Blvd was supplying water to the greater West Hempstead Community. The district supplies Franklyn Square and Garden City South as well as West Hempstead. The third such towers brings the systems storage to a total capacity of 3.1 million gallons, after having recently added a new West Hempstead tower. West Hempstead water feeds over 125 miles of water mains.
Known as the 7th Street Facility, a nearly $4 million grant allowed completion of the installation of an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) system to eliminate emerging contaminants that cannot be removed using conventional treatment methods.
West Hempstead water serves over 32,000 residents and backs up its systems of 11 wells with emergency generators to make sure it can service more than 500 hydrants as well. To obtain a recent water quality report use the link below.
