Patience proved a virtue for vendors and organizers of the Third Annual Nassau Boulevard Street Fair as area residents gathered beneath a cloudless spring sky, with temperatures in the 70s for a Sunday raindate.
The original April 30 date was quickly washed out amid a persistent downpour, but organizer Oleg Zivkovich told Echo early Sunday “nothing’s going to stop this train, because we have a wonderful day planned for everyone.” The event was presented by the West Hempstead Civic Association.
More than 60 vendors lined the Boulevard from Gaynor Place to Hempstead Avenue, with Hall’s Pond as a picturesque backdrop. Musical entertainment was provided by one-man band Steve Campagna, followed by the In The Mix band’s “get up and dance music,” in a return engagement from last year.
Vendors peddled everything from cobblestone patio makeovers (as presented in one elaborate display),pet grooming and solar panels to clothing, soaps, pickles, nick nacks and copious amounts of fried food (popcorn shrimp in waffle cones!) and plenty of ice cream (free for kids).
The requisite bounce houses and mini-train at the Fun Zone also kept kids busy, as did snakes, lizards and tortoises courtesy of Tony’s Reptile Shack. Civic organizations like the West Hempstead Lions Club also turned out.
