Republicans Take White House and Senate; House Still Undecided & Local Election Results

In a sweeping victory on the national stage, the Republican Party has regained control of both the White House and the Senate, with Donald Trump returning to the Oval Office. The battle for control of the House remains undecided as final votes continue to be counted.

Laura Gillen Declares Victory in NY-4 Race

In New York’s 4th Congressional District, Democrat Laura Gillen declared victory over incumbent Republican Congressman Anthony D’Esposito in a closely contested race. Celebrating the win, Gillen highlighted the strength of her campaign’s grassroots efforts:

“The coordinated campaign that we put together, we knocked on 300,000 doors, we made over 600,000 phone calls, and we put together a campaign that was a winning game that we will emulate in the years to come,” Gillen said.

Local Election Results

In other local races:

  • 18th Assembly District: Democrat Noah Burroughs won decisively with 20,488 votes, defeating Republican challenger Smikle, who received 3,715 votes.
  • 19th Assembly District: Incumbent Republican Ed Ra successfully defended his seat, defeating Democrat Sanjeev Jindal to secure another term in Albany.

Proposition 1 Approved

New York voters also passed Proposition 1, which aimed to add protections against discrimination to the state constitution. The measure received strong support, with 63% voting in favor and 37% opposed.
